Lt Greg Pickard served the Bryan Fire Department and the City of Bryan for over 30 years. Lt Pickard was a friend and mentor to everyone in the Bryan Fire Department. One of the highlights of Lt Pickard’s off-duty time was playing golf both with his family and his fire department friends. Every year he participated in the annual Leatherhead Scramble that was organized by the Bryan Firefighters Protection Company No 1. Lt Pickard was an avid golfer and he had an stellar short game. Every evening before the sun went down and after all the station duties were complete Lt Pickard spent time chipping golf balls behind the station to ensure his skills were sharp for the game he would play the next morning.Late in the night of February 15, 2013 Lt Pickard and his crew were called to rescue a brother in need during a commercial fire. Lt Pickard and his crew managed to rescued their brother, but all of them were badly burned. Lt Pickard lost his battle with his injuries on the afternoon of February 16, 2013 in the burn unit of UTMB in Galveston, TX. It is with great honor that the Bryan Firefighter Association Local 1204 renamed the Leatherhead Scramble to the Lt Greg Pickard Memorial Golf Tournament.
